More stuff for the Transformers gumbo

For those of you visiting this site for Transformers-related goodness, I'll mention that the Japanese Transformers Guide has been graced with Torsten "Nevermore" Abel's illuminating article, "Ten popular but incorrect rumors about Japanese Transformers". Given the numerous amounts of confusion regarding Japanese Transformers that are still around today (and I'll readily admit I'm not an expert on the subject), we're pleased as punch to have Torsten's guide to help clear up some matters.

Also, there's now a separate area for videos from the various Transformers: The MSTing performances. We've only got five there at the moment, but I'm hoping to add more once I can dig through the recesses of my closet and find my old tapes...

Interesting info on the Japanese TF series. I've not read all of your Japanese summaries, as I'm still getting caught up on the rather large amount of material around here Smiley .... But, the instances of Megatron commanding Galvatron DO seem to fit in with what I recall of the tech specs of Galvie, "city commander". I only read them in the store, a couple of times, but Galvatron the toy's tech specs did not list him as Decepticon leader, let alone having been created from Megatron or whatever, and in fact may have, IIRC, alluded to an aspiration to seize leadership. At any rate, the "Scramble City toy" version of things seems to me preferable to the mess Friedman stuck us with ....

(Not to completely bash TF:TM, which I have seen many times, and continues to show up in my TF fanfics - albiet as a source of jokes .... But it is interesting that Ron Friedman ended up being the "hatchet man" for both TF:TM and G.I. Joe the Movie, and really screwed up a lot of things in both cases ....)[And aren't I all over the elipses tonight?]

In retrospect, Galvatron's "City Commander" role was probably an attempt to not spoil the big secret of Transformers: The Movie. I know my first glimpses of Galvatron and Rodimus Prime were from the toy catalogs in early 1986, and Galvatron's "City Commander" and Rodimus' "Autobot Protector" roles certainly didn't give away anything.

Of course, I also didn't draw any sort of connection between Rodimus Prime, "hero from the future", and Hot Rod, even though they were both on the same page. Which just shows you how insightful I was at the time... Head-slapping smiley
