"Rush made me do it"

A follow-up to last week's blog entry, where we highlighted right-wing windbag Rush Limbaugh and Wyoming Republican Barbara Cubin as they talked tough against handicapped folks (Michael J. Fox and Thomas Rankin, respectively).

Never let it be said there's no such thing as karma: after word got out that Cubin had threatened to slap the wheelchair-bound Rankin, her pre-election numbers dropped fast, shedding 14 percentage points in under a week (from 49% to 35%). And in a creative piece of finger-pointing, Cubin is now blaming her unstatewomanly outburst on the afformentioned right-wing windbag:

Down in Wyoming, U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin got into some hot water when, after a debate, she threatened Libertarian candidate Thomas Rankin, who has multiple sclerosis and uses an electric wheelchair. She reportedly said to him, "If you weren't sitting in that chair, I'd slap you across the face."

She later apologized, saying she may have been influenced by listening to too much Rush Limbaugh. Last week, Limbaugh said he would slap actor and Parkinson's disease sufferer Michael J. Fox, "if you'd just quit bobbing your head."

Dunno about all you folks up in Wyoming, but in my book, the (implicit) fact that Cubin is a regular listener to Rush Limbaugh would be sufficient reason for me to question her judgement... Winking smiley
