From shootings to snoozings

[Updated 11:38am] For those who haven't been keeping track, sales of Sony's bleeding-edge PlayStation 3 video game console have been dropping like an iridium controller. The $600 machine, which brought out scalpers and inspired shootouts in November, fizzled out soon after Christmas and is now roundly being outsold by its competitors.

How much worse can it get? Well, here's a photo from last night's PlayStation 3 midnight launch in Paris, France:
One man in line and no one else...

And to add insult to injury was this passing boat:

I'm not sure whether to laugh or to cry. Maybe I'll do both... Winking smiley

(To be fair, if you check out the rest of the photos, there are a few showing approximately 30-50 people standing in line for the launch, so this guy wasn't completely alone. But it's still rather embarrassing when you compare them to the massive crowds who showed up for the PlayStation 2 or the Nintendo Wii launches in France...)

[Updated 11:38am] A French news channel reports that the launch was "au flop" -- Sony was expecting 3,000 fans to attend the event and had a thousand PlayStation 3 consoles available, but failed to sell 95% of them. Ouch.
