For those who haven't seen it yet, Newsweek has an in-depth article on the ongoing hunt for Osama Bin Laden -- y'know, the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks, the Mr. "Dead or Alive" that President George W. Bush promptly ignored in his rush to invade Iraq instead.
To my surprise, however, Bush's moronic stampede to Iraq apparently wasn't motivated solely by a cynically malevolent overeager rush to invade Baghdad, but because the Idiot-In-Chief is too frickin' stupid to do basic mathematics:
The Iraq War, meanwhile, has proved to be a black hole for the Americans, devouring men and matériel and absorbing the attention of the brass in Washington. In 2005, the CIA gave President Bush a secret slide show on the hunt for bin Laden. The president was taken aback by the small number of CIA case officers posted to Afghanistan and Pakistan. "Is that all there are?" the president asked, according to a former intelligence official, who declined to be identified discussing White House meetings.
Yes, Virgina, that's correct -- it took more than two years for the President of the United States to realize that "sending lots of troops to invade Iraq" = "taking lots of troops out of Afghanistan".
It'd certainly explain why the Bush Administration is still seeking more folks for its ill-fated Iraq "surge" even when the Army is all out of troops. Or maybe we should start a fund to help give the Prezdent some much-needed remedial education...
