So just in time for the holidays, Activision has a new video "game" for the Nintendo DS called Spanish for Everyone. As you may guess from the title -- and its kid-friendly sunshine-yellow cartoonish box art -- this is a child-friendly "edutainment" title, the kind bought by well-meaning cousins to foist on their relatives they don't care too much about.
Nothing wrong with that, at least until innocent little Timmy starts the game and watches the opening animation sequence:
So what have you learned in the last two minutes, Timmy?
Don't share your stuff with your Hispanic friends, as you might not get them back.
Hispanics have to jump into speeding limousines pursued by cops at a moment's notice.
When confronted by said cops, Hispanics won't stand to address the issues, but immediately make a run for the border (maybe to get the free tacos there?).
When you're in distress, your sexy Latina aunt will offer to take you to Tijuana and "teach you many things." Like how to say "bow-chicka-bow-bow" in Spanish, perhaps?
I'm normally against video-game inspired outrage and political-incorrectness outrage, but given the sheer density of stupidly offensive stereotyping shown here -- for a kid's edutainment title, no less -- I'll gladly make an exception in this case. I can't wait to see what kind of la granizada
P.S. Someone get Dora and Boots, stat!
