While driving into work this morning, I was listening to my copy of Pac-Man Fever, rockin' my inner geek with some cheesy '80s pop music.
After a while, I realize that it's been 25 years (plus a few months) since the album was first released in 1982.
And then I wondered, "Wouldn't it be cool (in an unabashed geeky way) if someone were to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pac-Man Fever with a follow-up album?"
Well, I'm no musician, but here's my list of titles for a proposed imaginary sequel to the world-famous classic. In keeping with the spirit of the original, I've chosen titles with just a dose of cheesiness, while reflecting the most popular and influential video-gaming trends of today:
Super Duper Mario
- Super Duper Mario (Super Mario Bros. series)
- Life In the City (Grand Theft Auto series)
- Just Me and My Guitar (Guitar Hero series)
- Love on the Battlefield (Metal Gear Solid series)
- Wrath of Angels (Halo series)
- Caught 'Em All (Pokémon series)
- Living on a Gold Farm (World of Warcraft series)
- Wii Wanna Play!
Make it so, Buckner & Garcia! It's not like you guys have much to do at the moment...
(It's also worth noting that, aside from Guitar Hero, the only family-friendly titles in the list consist of Nintendo properties. If I were in the mood for social analysis, I'd make a comment about how narrowly focused the "hardcore" video-game audience has become -- but it's easier to just let the numbers speak for themselves...)
