Prediction: Americans STILL won't connect the dots

This month, we've got a beef recall due to E. coli bacteria infection.

Last month, we got a tomato recall due to a salmonella outbreak (and we still don't know the source of the contamination).

So as we head into this Fourth of July weekend, is there any chance that Americans will take pause before gobbling down their chili burgers and ask themselves, "Hey! How come our government ain't stoppin' this dirty food in the first place?!"

Nah. Smiley with tongue

Who cares about food safety when we can argue whether or not Barack Obama is secretly a radical Muslim terrorist sleeper cell agent Eye-rolling smiley instead?

After all, last year we had adulterated grain, antifreeze-tainted toothpaste, and even a major scandal over contaminated pet food, yet Americans continue to blindly ignore the symptoms as soon as they roll off the front page. And with the laughably pathetic state of mainstream "news" in America today, it's no surprise that people don't even know -- much less remember -- the reports of continued staff cuts, curtailed inspections, and gaping inspection loopholes perforating America's food-and-drug safety shield.

But then again, actually inquiring into why the FDA is busted would ultimately lead to discovering that the Republicans have been systematically destroying it for the last twenty-some years -- just as they have systematically attacked every other aspect of government in the same time.

And as the last eight years have shown us, if there's one thing Americans (collectively) are good at doing, it's letting Republicans off the hook (and re-electing them, even) while their policies continue to drag the nation into the abyss...
