Even more pointless than ever

Like a lot of other Transformers fans, I remember being rather flabbergasted when I first heard about the Action Masters toy line -- "Transformers that don't transform? Isn't that missing the whole point?"

Well, it's taken a while, but now things have gotten even more inane. Look at what I found while prowling the toy aisles the other day:

Admittedly, it doesn't look too weird so far -- it's essentially an oversized Transformers Action Master toy, albeit with some nifty electronic effects. But check out the back of the box:

So let me see if I've got this right... What we have here is a Transformers action figure...

...that's based on a character who transforms into a vehicle...

...that doesn't really transform into anything...

...but can get around by lying down and rolling on its wheels, xtreme street luge-style...

UH. HUH. Dubious smiley

Honestly, wouldn't it have been easier to just have the toy transform into the frickin' car so it can roll? I mean, it worked for the originals, didn't it?

I'm still not sure whether to gape at the sheer pointlessness of it all, or laugh at the sheer pointlessness of it all. Either way, though, there's a lotta pointlessness involved...

This is the only version of Animated Bumblebee who can do the "lie down and roll on his wheels in robot mode" trick as seen in the cartoon. On the other versions, backpack kibble gets in the way.

He does it in the cartoon as well? Primus, that's even dumber than I thought...

Several times he uses the wheels on his robot mode for transportation. Usually just skate-style, but occasionally he luges, or uses them to zoom up an elevator shaft by bracing shoulders and feet.
