Barack Obama: GEEK!

Yes, I know I said I'd get off the Barack-Obama-kickass-election-victory quasi-obsession already. In fact, I was just about to bang out a postscript to the last week's headrush when a passel of Obama-related geekery dropped into my lap, demanding to be recognized...

Apple's iPhone App Store - Five days later

As millions of geeks know already, Apple unveiled its new iPhone 2.0 software and App Store last Friday. By all accounts both efforts were big successes, with ten million copies of third-party software snapped up for iPhones and iPod Touches already.

Like any good geek, I joined the herd and have been spending the last few days trying (and buying) various stuff. And like any good geek, now I get to blog my impressions of said software:

Microsoft's bionic comedienne

My brother directed me to Ms. Dewey the other night, a new search engine cooked up by the geeks up at Microsoft.

What makes Ms. Dewey different from the myriad other search engines (past and present) is that she's essentially a stand-up comedienne wrapped around Google. She does a short quip (with accompanying live-motion video) before presenting the results.

An end-run for SCIENCE!

Now that's clever...

For those of you who pay attention to those little headline bullets on this site's home page, you might have remembered this tidbit from a few weeks back:

Iran by the numbers

I suppose it's inevitable -- since President Bush's ratings have been sinking faster than the Titanic (capped off with veep Cheney getting booed by a stadium full of critics this week), it's time to beat the war drums and rally some support for El Presidente.

Life with "Pappa Balmer"

Of mixed minds

Following the December ruling that struck down the teaching of "intelligent design" in Dover, PA, the Ohio Board of Education did an about-face and eliminated a biology lesson plan advocating students seek out evidence for and against evolution.
