Story

At Fort Lewis near Seattle, Washington, General Abernathy ("Hawk") drives a group of Senators past a crowd of protesters and to the base's airstrip. The object of their study is Power Station Alpha, a prototype orbital spaceship/power station, which is due to be launched tomorrow. Meanwhile, Optimus Prime sends Bumblebee to observe the launch, in case the Decepticons try to steal the station.

Bored with waiting among the protesters, the Dreadnoks hop on their motorcycles and terrorize the senators. The G.I. Joe team fights them off, but the Dreadnoks escape unharmed. Watching from Cobra Island, Cobra Commander berates Zartan for the incident, because now the Joes are alerted to Cobra's interest. And while Megatron sends Dirge and Bombshell to steal the station, Bumblebee arrives outside Fort Lewis and hides as a parked car among the protesters camped outside.

The next morning, Power Station Alpha transforms to flight mode and prepares for launch. While the Joe called Mutt is ordered to escort the station, his dog Junkyard befriends Anthony Duranti, the son of one of the protesters. The Decepticons arrive and spot Bumblebee in the crowd; to distract the Autobot, Bombshell injects Anthony with a cerebro-shell and takes control of him.

Seeing Bombshell, Bumblebee radios Optimus Prime, who sends out the Aerialbots. But it's too late, as Bombshell makes Anthony run in front of Power Station Alpha's massive treads. While the commando Snake-Eyes leaps into the station and stops it, Bumblebee transforms to robot mode and rescues the boy. The humans, assuming that Bumblebee is an intruder who wants to steal the station, open fire and destroy him. Unseen in the confusion, Bombshell sneaks into the station.

Moments later, the Aerialbots arrive at the airfield. They quickly combine into Superion, then land and confront the Joes...

Notes and Comments

  • Though it is not clearly stated, it appears that the events in the G.I. Joe and the Transformers limited series occurs between issue #23 and issue #24 of the regular Transformers comic. In this issue, Optimus Prime makes a generic reference to Megatron that is footnoted to issue #23. Because Optimus Prime is destroyed in issue #24, that places this limited series between the two issues.
