Low Japanese interest in Transformers relegated Transformers Battlestars: Return of Convoy to the printed page; only the first issue of the manga was printed, with the rest of the story told as advertisements and illustrated text in TV Magazine. Rumors are that an animated series was planned but cancelled after the failure of Transformers: Zone.
Battlestars begins when the Cybertrons use the Zodiac Energy from Transformers: Zone to resurrect Convoy (Optimus Prime) as Star Convoy. However, unbeknownst to them, an evil force called Dark Nova sees Star Convoy as a threat to its plans of domination. Dark Nova thus finds the body of Galvatron (buried at the North Pole from events in Headmasters), resurrects him as Super Megatron, and sends him to attack Seibertron.
Star Convoy, Sixliner, Grandus, and Sky Garry vs. Ultra Megatron's one and only appearance in Battlestars.
In response, Star Convoy counterattacks with Sixliner, Sky Garry, Grandus, and the Cybertron Microtransformers. Super Megatron is destroyed, but is resurrected again as Ultra Megatron. When he is destroyed again, Dark Nova takes matters into its own tentacles, and merges with Megatron to form Star Giant. Battlestars ends when the Cybertrons destroy Star Giant once and for all.
The only new toys released under Battlestars were the Cybertrons highlighted above. Star Convoy and Grandus are Microtransformer bases; Star Convoy has a motorized platform, and Grandus can connect to him as a secondary trailer with working elevator. When coupled with Sky Garry (who serves as a Microtransformer air carrier), the trio is known as the Battlestars.
